Introduction to Egham

Egham is a town in the borough of Surrey, located around 20 miles to the southwest of London. It is part of the London commuter belt and Greater London Urban Area and has its own railway station, with regular trains to London Waterloo taking 37 minutes. The local area provides plenty of opportunities for students – from shopping and eating out, to exploring the local history, culture and countryside. And because of its proximity to London, you can also benefit from all the capital has to offer.

The campus of Royal Holloway (pictured), part of the University of London, is situated on Egham Hill to the south of Egham. Royal Holloway is one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities, with 19 academic departments spanning the arts and humanities, sciences, social sciences, management and economics.

The Air Forces Memorial at the top of the hill in nearby Englefield Green commemorates all Commonwealth air force personnel killed in World War II. The Memorial has excellent views towards London, Windsor and the Surrey Hills, as well as being a place of quiet contemplation and reflection.
